In GivePulse, when you add custom fields, you can choose the "Answer Type" for each field. This option allows you to determine whether users should fill out the field every time it appears on a form or if they only need to fill it out once, and the information will be saved for future use.
It is important to consider the answer type when developing assessments and applications for your users. Be sure to review your options carefully as answer type dictates how information is saved in our system.
Many Answers - Save Each Response - allow users to update the response multiple times so that you as an administrator can see an audit or trail of answers as the users respond over time.
Single Answer - Update Previous Response allow individuals who respond to this custom field to fill this out once and continue to update the existing field.
Single Answer Type Example
Scenario: you create a custom field asking for a user's phone number. For example, if you choose the option to fill it out once, users will only need to enter the information once, and it will be stored for future use. This can save time and avoid repetitive data entry for users.
When the custom field answer type is set as "Single Answer - Update Previous Response," it means that the system will store the user's initial response the first time they answer the question. Whenever the user encounters the same question again, their response will update the previous response.
Many Answer Type Example
Scenario: you create a custom field asking a volunteer to describe their experience. For example, if you select the option to fill out a custom field every time it appears, users will be prompted to provide the requested information each time they encounter the field on a form.
By selecting the "Many Answers - Save Each Response" answer type for this custom field, users will be prompted to provide a description of their experience each time they encounter the field. The system will save each unique response given to this question over time.
