The GivePulse platform integrates with any LMS through its very own LTI. You can embed the GivePulse LTI into assignments and courses to organize service-learning and all community engagement from a single location. For instructions on how to set up this integration with Desire2Learn, see below.
Setting Up for Your Organization
1. Review this article and complete the necessary tasks
2. In Brightspace by D2L, go to Admin Tools > External Learning Tools.
3. Click New Link and configure each section as follows:
Properties
- Title: Enter title that you would like to use for GivePulse
- URL: Enter LTI URL - https://www.givepulse.com/lti/course *
- Description (Optional): Enter a description.
Key/Secret and Custom Parameters
- Signature:
- Select Sign messages with key/secret with.
- Select Link key/secret.
- Key: Enter the LTI Key from Step 1
- Secret: Enter the LTI Secret from Step 1
Security Settings
- Select Use link security settings and check all options.
- Click Add Org Units
- Add all org units that you would like to make the link available to.
- Click Save and Close
Note: The external tool should now be listed under Manage External Learning Tool Links.
Note: By default GivePulse app is disabled. Every instructor who wants to use it will have to do the following steps.
Adding GivePulse to the Navbar for a Course
1. Go to Admin Tools > Navigation & Themes
2. Click on Custom Links then click Create Link
3. Fill out the form as follows:
- Name: Name of the link as it will appear in the navbar
- Click Insert Quicklink to add the tool
- Choose External Learning Tools > click the tool name from the previous setup in the Setting Up for Your Organization section
- Behavior: Select Same window
- Fill in the rest of the form as desired and click Save
Note: Course Administrators can edit their course navbar, Add Link and look for the custom link in the list.
Adding GivePulse to the Navbar for All Courses
1. Go to Admin Tools > Navigation & Themes
2. Click on your default/custom navbar to edit
3. Click Add Links
4. Click Create Custom Link
5. Fill out the form as follows:
- Name: Name of the link as it will appear in the navbar
- Click Insert Quicklink to add the tool
- Choose External Learning Tools > click the tool name from the previous setup in the Setting Up for Your Organization section
- Behavior: select Same window
- Fill in the rest of the form as desired and click Create
6. The new custom link should be automatically selected. If it is not selected, find the custom link from the list and select
7. Click Add
8. Reorder the link in the navbar as needed. Click Save and Close
After this, the link to GivePulse's LTI should appear on all courses using the navbar where GivePulse was added.
Setting Up for Your D2L Course (if not set up by organization)
1. Log into your D2L account.
2. Navigate to your Course Home page: Select the Course (and section) that will include the link to the corresponding Course/Section.
3. Select Course Admin on the far right
4. Under Site Resources, select External Learning Tools
5. On the Manage External Learning Tool Links tab and click on New Link.
6. Insert a Title and LTI URL (https://www.givepulse.com/lti/course)*.
7. Under Visibility, check "Allow users to view this link."
8. In the Key/Secret section, select "Sign Messages with key/secret with" and "Link Key/Secret." Enter the LTI Key and LTI Secret (see Setting Up the Integration step 1)
9. Under Security Settings, select "Use Link Security Settings." Then, checkmark each option below "Use Link Security Settings" as seen in the screenshot.
10. Click Save and Close
11. Return to your Course Home page and click Content
12. Navigate to the place that you would like to add the link for the students to access and click "Existing Activities." If you do not see this option, you will need to add a Module first on the left-hand side of the screen.
13. From the "Existing Activities" dropdown, click External Learning Tools. In the pop-up, select the link that you created for the section earlier. It will be listed by the Title that you gave it. This will add the link to the course.
14. Click the little arrow next to the link and select Edit Properties In-Place.
15. Make sure to check the box for Open as External Resource (Link will not work otherwise). Click browser refresh to save.
*Please note: If you have your own subdomain (e.g. sru.givepulse.com), you should use your subdomain URL in place of www.givepulse.com. If you would like to test the integration, you can do so by using dev.givepulse.com or subdomain-dev.givepulse.com (sru-dev.givepulse.com) in place of www.givepulse.com.
