Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement
Many organizations have already created statements on diversity, equity, and inclusion like this sample statement. If you don’t already have this type of statement, feel free to use or adapt this one.
We are committed to creating a welcoming, equitable, accessible environment where all clients, volunteers, staff and anyone involved with our organization can feel safe, valued and given an opportunity to engage in meaningful activities working toward our mission. We value and respect diversity including differences in religions/value systems, sex, age, race, ethnicity, and national origin, range of abilities, sexual orientation, gender identity, financial means, education, and political perspective. We pledge to recognize, acknowledge, and dismantle patterns and systems of power, privilege and oppression that exclude and harm people.
Include your statement in your group description so that people know up front that they will be welcome.
Statement of Commitment to Accessibility for People with Disabilities
The accessibility needs of people with Disabilities are sometimes not considered. Making an event accessible may require advance communication and planning. It is helpful for organizations to have a statement that specifically addresses inclusion of people with disabilities. Feel free to use or adapt this sample statement and include it in all of your event descriptions..
We strive to make our volunteering opportunities accessible to the largest number of people possible. If you have accessibility requirements in order to fulfill a volunteer role in which you are interested, please contact us, so we can work together to accommodate you.
Registration
Add a custom field to your event registration forms to invite people to tell you about any accommodations they may need in order to participate in your event or to ask questions.
