Service Learning (SL) is different across different campuses, institutions and programs.
The GivePulse service learning platform supports all permutations of service learning, community based learning, civic engagement learning et al.,
Note: GivePulse streamlines the logistics and management of finding, matching, and streamlining the liabilities & waivers between Community Partners (CP's) and the institution.
Below are examples of how we support SL:
Faculty, Class and CP: In this scenario, faculty members have identified a CP in which they have built a strong relationship with. GivePulse enables the faculty member to add the CP as an admin or viewer so they may contribute to the students' learning. The logistics of coordinating when the students visit the CP is streamlined and clear between all stakeholders. In terms of the data, all experiences, service hours, reflections, attendance and outputs are tracked for the SL Class and shared with the CP, student(s), Faculty and whoever is an admin.
Faculty, Class and multiple CPs: In this scenario, faculty members have identified multiple CPs to support and provide opportunities for students to serve and learn. GivePulse enables the faculty member to add multiple CPs as an admins or viewers so they may contribute to the students' learning. The opportunit(ies) are administered by different CPs with the faculty member have oversight. The logistics of coordinating when the students visit the CP is streamlined and clear between all stakeholders. Data tracking will include all experiences, service hours, reflections, attendance and outputs for the SL Classes, distributed across the different various CPs and then shared between the student(s), Faculty, CP and whoever is an admin.
Note: In the case the same opportunity with the same CP exists for multiple classes, GivePulse logistically simplifies this management headache.
First Year Experience (FYE), Classes, Themes: In this scenario, administrators and faculty members have a cohort of students who must experience specific service themes in the community. Each class will have a theme which surfaces opportunities created by the admins or CP's. The data will be tracked for each cohort and broken down by themes to address the impact of each.
Programs, CPs: In this scenario, administrators have programs where the logistics of scheduling and coordinating the efforts become difficult. Great examples include the Food Pantry or America Reads & Counts. GivePulse helps by providing a calendaring ability to enable students, staff and faculty to schedule themselves with multiple pantry, schools and agencies (respectively).
- Food Pantry: GivePulse provides a calendar ability (timeslots) to let each pantry enable their volunteers to schedule themselves in and track specific outputs like (pounds of food sorted or packaged). In addition, we have a mobile app enabling Clock-in and Clock-out features to track when students came in and out accurately.
- American Reads & Counts: Many AR/AC programs have many schools and agencies with a commitment to improving children's reading and math knowledge. The logistics to schedule between the students schedule, the schools and agencies schedules becomes difficult. GivePulse helps centralize the scheduling and keeps it transparent for all stakeholders to visibly see who is scheduled and planning to make an impact.
